9/11, and the wars that followed it, had no limit of heroic acts by police, fire, service members and CIA operators. As the last hijacked flight was being tracked by ATC from Ohio and traveling to DC, very low and at a high rate of speed two F-16s from the DC Air National Guard were ordered to intercept it. They had no missiles and only training rounds in their guns. They made the decision, if ordered to down the airliner, one would crash into the planes cockpit while the other hit the vertical stabilizer in a kamikaze-style attack. They were unable to locate the aircraft, which would later be identified at Flight 93. Lucky for the US, Marc Sasseville and Heather Penney, the two F-16 pilots , Todd Beamer, a passenger on Flight 93, aware of what had happened during phone conversations with his wife, organized a small group of men to rush the cockpit. They would ultimately bring down the plane into field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, killing at 44 passengers, crew at the terrorists. Those passengers probably stopped what would have been a decapitation attack, targeted at our government, aimed at either the US Capitol or White House. Don’t forget the sacrifices, both realized and not, on that day 22 years ago. And don’t forget what people were willing to do to protect our country, based on the love for it, which we seem to be losing today. I wish more people today would show the selfless sacrifice Tom Beamer did when he said just prior to rushing the cockpit, “Let’s Roll!”
