Authorities were warned 1 minute and 25 seconds before the suspect fired his first shot. The total engagement lasted 6.02 seconds from the suspect’s first shot, and he fired a total of 8 rounds. 6.02 seconds to return fire is an eternity during a shooting, especially for a sniper team set up in a fixed position. Some of this delay probably had to do with the fact that the Secret Service Counter-Sniper team had one of its members come off his sights and take cover, while the other flinched and also came off his sights. Not the best day for the Secret Service, but this is what can happen because . . . it’s not the movies.
